Affiliate Marketing 101 – Beginner’s Guide

What is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing can be hard to understand, especially for beginners. That’s why I’m posting this beginners guide to affiliate marketing.

My blog is called Marketing Basics 101, so it’s only appropriate that I give you some thoughts about  Affiliate Marketing 101.

This will certainly not be an extensive guide to affiliate marketing.  There is much more to be learned, but this will help get you get started if this is something you want to know more about.

Affiliate Marketing is basically a way for you to get a commission for helping someone else sell their product or service.

For example, let’s say you suggest that someone check out a product at an Amazon shop.  Then they go there, using a link you provide, and purchase the product (or another product).  You will get a commission from Amazon for sending them a customer.

You might have the same type of affiliate arrangement with others – maybe with Walmart or Target, etc.  There are many companies who will gladly pay a commission to you for sending customers to them.  Not just the big retailers, either.

How Much Can I Make?

The Commission amount is will vary for each different affiliate program.  It can range from as little as 3% to as much as 75 %, or even more sometimes.

So, in essence, affiliate marketing is a way for you to make money by sending people to buy someone else’s products.  The more people you send who end up buying, the more money you will make.

How Can I Do It?

How can you put affiliate marketing into practice and bring more money into your life?

One way is by blogging.  When you create a blog, you are creating content that other people want to read.  In your blog content you can suggest products and put links that will take your readers to where they can purchase the products.  Here’s an example – if you want to learn how to use affiliate marketing to make some extra money with your blog, click here.  If you click on the link I just gave you, the “click here” link, you will go to a sales page for a product called “How to Make More Money With Affiliate Marketing.”  It is a really good product from David Perdew at Novice to Advanced Marketing Systems (NAMS).  If you buy it, I will receive a commission.

Here’s another example.  If I were to write a blog post about cats and mention in it that I have found a great outdoor exercise product for cats, you or some of my other readers may think, “that sounds interesting” and click on my link to see what its all about.  If it is something that you need or want, then maybe you will buy it and I will get a commission from Amazon!

When you are putting out content, especially if it’s content you were going to put out anyway, then putting in affiliate links to the things that you love is a great way to help your readers find things that will meet their needs or desires.

You probably are already putting out content by blogging, or YouTubing, Instagramming, or posting on Facebook or Twitter, etc., so you could start developing some extra income from social media.

The product I mentioned above, How to Make More Money With Affiliate Marketing, is a very good course for learning how to do exactly what the name says.  I highly recommend it.
